We have casting drawings that were created in the 1990s. There are dimensioned features that are noted to be "banking and locating points". No one currently here knows or can say with certainty what is banking with reference to castings and/or machining. If anyone can explain then please advise.

Banking points refer to work-holding features (e.g. tabs to resist rotation of the workpiece in a lathe chuck), tooling points refer to locating features, but sometimes both are done in one feature (conical cavities as one example). Had to look in an old 1906 article to find a reference to banking points...but I've heard some older tooling types talk about them.
