Recently i came across a requirement 16 Inch to 24 Inch ANSI 600 Class Ball Valves with Solid Tungsten Carbide trims. All the quotes i have received is with Tungsten Carbide Coating and not solid Tungsten carbide. The consultant is firm on his requirement (ie Solid Tungsten Carbide).

1. Is it possible for manufacture large size Balls in Tungsten Carbide?
2. I heard Solid Tungsten Carbide is very much brittle hence cannot be used
3. Apart from commercial issues like preparation of large dies & Diamond cutting tools, whether we have any other technical points?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mogas would be another manufacturer to check with.

Wow- that's got to cost several arms and legs!

"Solid" tungsten carbide is a bit of a misnomer, isn't it? Aren't the "solid" tungsten carbide parts we see generally tungsten carbide grains "cemented" with a binder such as nickel or cobalt?

If you're looking for someone to manufacture just the balls, try Ballco (800) 848-8854
