Ball & Socket joint design

I am in the process of designing a rather large and heavy duty ball joint and have been unable to find any references on the subject. Does anyone know of any good reference material on the matter? The materials need to be some grade of stainless steel, preferably in the 300 and 400 series.
Any input is much appreciated, so Thanks in advance!
