I am starting this old thread.
If you have done a balanced cantilever bridge design, can you let me know any reference which outlines the step by step procedure for preliminary or detailed design?

I have never undertook a balanaced cantilever nridge design and keen to udnerstand the basics invlolved.
cheers

I think reading "Precast Segmental Box Grider Bridge Manual", published by Post-Tensioning Institute and "Construction and Design of Prestressed Concrete Segmental Bridge" by Walter Podolny & Jean Muller is a good starting point

Search FHWA site for segmental bridges. Find a 150 page example of segmental bridge design, step-by-step.

yakpol,

Could you show me the address, I didn't manage the documeny at FHWA's website?

Hi, I am a bit confused after looking at ASSHTO Design Spec. Section 5.14.2.3 in balanced cantilever construction. Using service limit state, the chart in the spec (table 5.14.2.3.3-1) which shows different load factors in combinations does not include incidental load (2A=2*segment weight) in case a segment may be dropped onto another segment. However, looking at strength limit states, it includes 2A.

Is it safe to neglect this incidental load, 2A using service load?

Thank you very much in advance
