For years we have gone under the assumption when temporarily supporting beams at a distance less than d/2, if welded bearing stiffeners existed between load and end of beam, that d/2 or near end of beam did not apply. We have recently been asked to supply backup for our assumption. Can anyone help?
thanks

We need more information on what you are describing. What does, "that d/2 or near end of beam did not apply" mean?

I associate d/2 with concrete but you have welded stiffeners so it must be steel.
