I am doing a small project for a North American refinery and I am to ensure the system meets B31.3. I have the 2004 version of B31.3 and at this point I have not seen any information regarding schedules of pipes. To not sound too lazy, is there a quick and easy way to determine what pipe and fiting type to use for shower equipment?

Thanks

You cannot think about this in terms of pipe schedules.

You need to evaluate for pressure adequacy based on equation 3a in par 304.1.5. This will determine your minimum wall thickness based on the listed parameters. Be sure to add any corrosion allowance and mill tolerance to this value. Then simply pick a standard wall thickness larger than the minimum required, this will determine the wall thickness.

After that’s done you may need to consider thermal growths and the hangering of pipes, dynamic effects, water hammer, earthquake and wind loadings.

The code does not distinguish between shower service or any other service, it comes down to pressure, temperature, and fluid service.

See page 4 for a fluid service description and what your system falls under (probably category D) and proceed from there.

All of the fittings and components need to conform to the listed standards in chapter 4 or meet the unlisted component requirement for the specific component.

I must say all of this seems like overkill for a shower station.

P.S. your topic lists B31.1 but you post says B31.3, which is correct? My advice pertains to B31.3.
