i am going to take the aws d1.1 written test in 2 weeks and i wanna know what exactly is on it ... like what types of questins and can i get some detailed help from anyone ... is the test hard?

The test is pretty hard. I highly recommend the prep course prior to the test. I think they said that less than 60% pass all three parts on the first try.

If you are an engineer, the material science and design information will come quickly. But, the practical welding stuff, electrodes, machine setting, inspection, etc. will be new.

If you are a welder, the reverse is true. But, the vocabulary used on the test may be different than "shop language".

I did very well on my first try, but the credit belongs to the instructor of my 1 week course. We completed the Welding Inspection Technology book (you need this book). We tabbed the D1.1 code for quick reference. And we worked dozens of practice questions.

Good luck

I know the test has changed over the years, but I took it in the late 1970's. For engineers with some practical experience, it was a piece of cake. For welders, it was difficult. For engineers with no practical experience, equally hard. Pretty much as connectegr described.

I taught review courses for the test for several years. My experience with the students was the same as connectegr noted.
