Hi folks,

I am currently looking at a possible project where we need to weld some 40" NB nozzles onto the side of a vessel which is 56" NB. Is there any references, books or websites that would offer guidance on placing internal 'star' stiffeners into the vessel prior to welding the nozzles so as to ensure we get minimum distortion or 'sinkage' as the nozzle is welded.

We are welding the nozzles to the vessel wall and then cutting the vessel wall to match the nozzle bore afterwards but still think that we may have sinking of the nozzles - hence the question.

Checkout thread725-170811, especially the information on the John P Stewart book on distortion control.
