Hello. I'm about to machine some aluminium uprights for my car, but I'm struggling to decide on the fit of the wheel bearing.

The upright (housing) is Aluminium 7075.
The bearing is a double row taper roller assembly. OD 72 ID 39 (is it ford fiesta, using fiesta live front axles)
So the outer ring is stationary, inner ring rotates and the load direction is constant.
I've attached a section view of my assembly.

I have worked in motorsport where much attention was paid to achieve the correct hot rolling torque. The strategy for the fit of the bearing in to upright seemed to be to set the clearance to zero at the expected (measured) running temperature and work backwards from there.

For my application I have assumed a temperature of 50°C above ambient, however, this results in quite a heavy interference at ambient (Dia 72 -0.046)

SKF recommend H7 housing fit for this type of bearing (with nominal bearing OD) and a stationary outer ring load, which would be Dia 72+0.025. No mention of temperature.

So, I guess I'm asking, does anyone have any experience of this application, and if so what would you suggest.

Many thanks

Tom

Sorry, make a mistake - The H7 fit on Dia 72 should be 72 +0.03

Do you know more about bearings than SKF?
