Automotive Ignition Transistor

I want to use the POINTS of an early (6v) Automobile to switch a SEMICONDUCTOR controling the ignition coil . What would be a good useable device its probably been done before I have seen 12v systems but not 6v applications. Any device numbers would be helpful.

IGBT! Do a search and look through those, I guarentee that those will work in your application, since they are used by several of the biggest auto makers in the US.

Hi melone, I have not seen an IGBT that swiches with 6v, do you have a part number?. A logic drive MOSFET would seem a better choice.

The IGBT's that we use are logic level gate drive. I will have to do some searching to find the part numbers, but try looking at On semiconductors or Harris semiconductors.

There are plenty of "sensitive gate" IGBTs in the world. I use then when the job calls for them, but they are usually 25 to 50% more expensive in small volumes.
