It is supposed to be "sad". The 24hrs of Lemons is a bunch of people racing poor excuses for a race car. It is more about fun than money. I believe one entry this year was a modified E250 van.

One of our local head cases won the Buttonwillow "Index of Performance" (???) in a POS 850 Mini !!! The overall winner was a Ford powered Volvo.

My favorite feature of LeMons is the prize for the "Index of Effluency".

Just to show more of my ignorance of auto racing: While a teenager (many snows ago), I saw a poster on a telephone pole advertizing a "Grand Prix" local race. I read it out loud mispronouncing the "x" as "cks". My freind and his older sister were riding with me. They had a good laugh at me.

OK, I'll bite.
The gear ratio on that starter pinion and flex plate ring gear is around 15:1. That turbo compressor won't begin to achieve any measurable P/R (or boost) until about 50,000 rpm. Especially with the compressor inlet located in the turbulent, low dynamic pressure zone created by the trailing wake of the drive system. At 50,000 rpm on the compressor shaft and a 15:1 drive, the fan would need to turn at around 3333 rpm.
Maybe someone with an aero background and a sense of humor would be willing to explain why those 15" fan blade airfoils (hand cut from a sheet metal A/C duct no less!) would be unlikely to achieve a tip velocity of over 430 ft/sec in a 65mph airstream, against a several horsepower shaft load.
The lesson here kids is that if you want to be successful at perpetrating an urban myth on the internet, at least make an effort to get your technical facts straight.

It probably does a very good job of maintaining ambient air at ambient before it is compressed.
