Autodesk & PTC are making friends ?

I recall those arguments in the early 90's."Pro/E drafting sux". My reply was that Pro/E is an engineering tool and because of that it makes it harder to cheat. Thats what you do in Autocad. just change the numbers and fake it.

I agree with Bart. Initially, I was lost in Proe-Drafting, because I was trying to draft AutoCAD way. Later, when I understood the drafting module, the draft entities were reduced to NIL or were limited to one or two. A clean drawing will have no Draft entities (Other than the DRIVEN dimensions and Notes if any).
All it needs is a little mental orientation. Most drafters, (including me in my initial days) think in terms of either drafting board approach or AutoCAD approach; and that is where we go wrong. Proe drafting certainly does not follow the AutoCAD thought process and thus it goes contrary to what WE THINK should be the RIGHT DRAFTING process.
To overcome this, one must decide not to use Draft entities at all. This would really force them to uncover the power of Proe-Drafting; and it really is powerful, though it can certainly improve substantially especially on DYNAMIC OSNAP, OLE and TABLES.

At the risk of getting blown out of the water, let me clarify what I am trying to say.


I said that ProE's detailing was a pain in the a**e, not that it was unuseable. If you look at Inventor and (God but it pains me to say this) Solidworks, both their drafting packages are quite seemless. ProE's is clunky. Yes you can learn to get good at it (Srini) but a lot of what PTC have 'designed' into the interface is sometimes unwieldly to use andhas a dependancy on user familiarity.


Don't get me wrong, there are loads of nice bits in there, but overall I always feel that there is a degree of letting the side down when it comes to the detailing package.

What I said is not to say that proe is a perfect software for drafting. Only that it has its own thinking process which is a bit different from AutoCAD (since the topic is between proe and Autocad). Other software like solidworks and solidedge are more intuitive. PTCdoes need to look into it and I AM SURE THEY MUST BE HAVING A COPY OF SOLIDWORKS and SOLIDEDGE running at a secret place.
