Australian wind code AS1170.2 for vessel design?
If so, what do you typically use for the shape factor "Cfig".

Appendix E, Table E3, has similar info as ASCE 7-98. However, AS1170.2 bases their shape factor on surface roughness and diameter. When calculated, I get consistenly lower values than other wind codes.

Contact Australian Standards at their website. They have a catalogue.

Is the standard's Appendix B Circular cross section Cd=1.2 the value you are looking for?

Isthil,

You have to take a look at Section 5 of the AS1170 Code. The aerodynamic shape factor, (Cfig), is calculated from the equations in Section 5.2. It is dependant on whether it is external pressure or internal pressure and you will have to look up certain factors , Ka, Kc, Kl, Kp, etc. These are given in Section 5 (Tables 5.2 thru 5.9). If you have a copy of the code you should be able to follow it. You are able to view the Australian Standards online if you have a licence to do so.

Cheers!

Lyle
