Hi,

I am relocating from the UK to Australia to continue to work as a Structural Engineer and am looking for guidance on some good industry design guides and technical advice similar to Fiona Cobbs' 'Pocket Book' or the 'Structural Elements Design Manual - Working to Eurocodes' - anything along those lines, though with reference to Australian Standards rather than BS/EN codes.
Is anyone aware of any useful documents out there that being used in the industry at the moment?

Thanks

In general, make sure you get a copy of the commentary or supplement to any Australian Standard you are working with (where available). They contain a lot of useful information.

Specifically related to concrete.
Join the Concrete Institute of Australia. They have many documents available for free download to members, including a reinforced concrete detailing manual. They also have a good deal on accessing on-line copies of Australian Standards, and free access to the FIB library of documents (although that's obviously not Australia related). Also all the state capitals have regular technical events. I should mention I'm on the Concrete Institute board, so I may be a bit biased.

Other industry body web-sites also have information, such as CCAA.

There are several text books written by Australian academics which would be worth getting. Two that I have that I can recommend are Concrete Structures by Warner, Rangan, Hall and Faulkes, and Time Dependent Behaviour of Concrete Structures by Gilbert and Ranzi.

In terms of steel design these are good resources to get the basics

Australian Steel Institute also has many other good resources. Unfortunately not much free stuff, but many well worth the cost.

Standards Australia also do a handbook on concrete design. Don't have it but would imagine it covers design examples to As3600.
