How can I find the ASTM specification for a fine thread 12 PT HEX BOLT 3/4-16 UNJF - 3A X 2.300 INCONEL 718?

specifically the torque setting...

I have tried looking online with no luck...

ivancberni,

As boo1 mentioned, ASTM A 1014 is a suitable standard for alloy 718 bolts. However, it does not have any information related to the assembly process, meaning torque-tension behavior, what tightening torque to use, etc. This depends on a number of factors including joint details, coatings and/or lubricants, and what preload is required to clamp the joint.

Thank you guys, I used the ASTM 1014 to find the yield strength of inconel 718.

with this value I found a preload by multipling the yield strength with the tensile strength area.

Then I used the torque equation T=K*D*P
K= coefficient of friction(which varies with coating/lubricant used)
D=bolt diameter(3/4in)
P=Preload

I was hoping to find an actual tandard for this torque equation but never found it.

Nevertheless, Thank you for your replies!

There is no official American standard for this equation but this is the widely accepted industry standard. My colleagues and myself typically reference Shigley.
