Does anyone know the ASTM spec for #10 stainless steel flat headed wood screw? I can find a dozen specs, but nothing specifically for a wood screw... Thanks...

I was under the impression that they're spec'ed based on the alloy. I searched my ASTM subscription and there weren't any specs for wood screws.

I found a supplier, in India, who claims he manufactures wood screws to F593 but that spec is for bolts and cap screws but the ASTM spec says the material is A194. Another supplier, also in India, claims he manufactures ss wood screws to A593, which doesn't exist.

How about ASME Standard, This will get you going. Link

@BB: I couldn't find one either... maybe there isn't one... surprised ASTM missed out...[bigsmile]

@r13: Not what I'm looking for but extremely useful information including the other material on the site. Thanks.

Dik,

From the same site I found this, I didn't check for SS screw through. Link

This was the best I could find, and it's not ASTM:

I think ASME is more dominate in products through machining, ASTM is more base materials and extrude products.

I was looking through the Federal specs - GSA & DoD - no specific spec (pun intended) for stainless steel wood screws. I found some specs that call for them but no details on materials. One spec referred to ASME B18.6.1, but that's only for dimensions.

bb,

Do you have access to "ASTM A593 - Stainless steel bolts, hex cap screws and studs".

I doubt you will have much luck. I'd consider using a stainless screw with an ICC report such as Simpson SDS or a DWP.

Thanks... never thought of SDS will make the hole a tad larger and use 1/4"... at least then I can spec a product that will do the job... not a generic spec... again thanks.

Okay, ASTM F593 is the spec for SS bolt and screw 1/4" and larger. That article and part of the spec is here. Link

Thanks r13... I think I'll go with a product spec... do that quite often... rather than generic, spec an object or an app'd alt. If I did houses, I'd have likely thought SDS right off the bat... my timber guy has pointed me in that direction before...
