Guys, is there a chart out there that explains what materials are being referred to in the ASTM codes?

Someones asked me to model up something in cad, and he's given me a code of ASTM a106 grade b. I want to get the properties correct if this ever passes to FEA.

What steel is that? I've not been able find that spec on matweb, efunda, wolfram alpha, or anywhere else I'velooked

ASTM A106 is a specification for seamless carbon steel (max C=0.30%) pipe for high temperature service. Grade B has min values of 60ksi TS and 35ksi YS.

Min or max values for each typical constituent are listed.
There are numerous additional requirements shown in the spec text (% elongation and other test values).

A print or pdf version of the spec is available from ASTM as metengr mentioned at a cost of $37.

The ASTM title clarifies some materials. For example ASTM A 105 Standard Specification for Carbon Steel Forgings for Piping Applications, common for steel flanges; or ASTM A 106 Standard Specification for Seamless Carbon Steel Pipe for High-Temperature Service, common for steel pipe. Just going the the ASTM web site or a google search to get the title may help with many materials. Also, many companies provide desktop access to codes and standards via IHS.

To what piping Code is the system being designed? What is the operating temperature and pressure for this system? What is the range of pipe nominal diameters?

Lots of times you can contact a distributor and talk with a sales engineer. Try and get them to send you one of their product books. They have lots of mechanical properties listed.....
