What is the difference between A516 plate and SA516 plate? Also, I see it designated SA516N. What does the N mean?

A516 is plate in accordance with ASTM and SA-516 is plate in accordance with ASME which in turn is identical to ASTM A516, 2006. Neither standard has a specific designation, 'N', but it has found common usage to denote the normalised heat treatment condition.
