I am trying to do some wall thickness calculations on existing pipe in a refinery. The old isometrics that I am working off of specify the pipe as "SCH20 BEVLED SMLS/EFW PIPE CS ASTM-A53,OR,API-5LGRB". ASTM A53-B can be either electric resistance weld (ERW) or seamless. The EFW (electric fusion weld) in the description is confusing me. Is API-5L piping available as EFW? (I don't have ready access to the API standards.) I am specifically trying to find out what kind a joint factor I can use in my calculations. For what it's worth, the drawings are from 1976, and I don't have access to the API or ASTM standards of that era. Anyone have any suggestions?
