ASTM A388 & E587. 1

What is the difference between UT standards ASTM A388 & E587. As per API 7-1 UT requirement is ASTM E587. But we have raw material UT tested with ASTM A388. Is this OK? E587 can be replaced with ASTM A388?

I suggest you read both standards and look for differences. If you don’t have both standards I suggest you buy them.
Questions like these can be fairly simple and it’s to easy to assume contributing members will share their experience just like that and do your homework for you.
If there’s a specific section between both standards you don’t understand the differences of, then you can post such a specific question rather than something generic like this.

The E spec is a test method, it tells you how to do it but has no acceptance criteria.
And A product spec will require testing to a method and it will give you the standard acceptance requirements.
In this case since A388 is labeled a practice my guess is that you will need the product spec, practice, and test method in order to have all of the details.
If you are buying something to an ASTM spec and you don't own all of the relevant specs then you have decided that it does not matter. As purchaser it is up to you to enforce the correct testing and certification. If you don't know then obviously you don't care.
