Did anyone have experience designing a frame structure using ASTM A1011 HSLAS steel square tubing instead of ASTM A500? We tried to design a steel structure using HSS 4x4x3/16. One steel supplier told us the tube made by ASTM A1011 could have 70 ksi min of yield strength, 80 ksi min of tensile strength and 16% min of elongation. Also they claim the carbon equivalent will be controlled less than 0.4% so that no special welding preparation is required. As we know, ASTM A1011 steel is a hot-rolled sheet steel. The thickness is less than 0.23 inch typically. But it seems AISC code is currently not applicable to ASTM A1011 for steel tubing. Do you know any design code is applicable for steel tubing made by ASTM A1011 steel or you think what we shall be aware of using steel tubing made by ASTM A1011 steel? Thanks in advance.
