assy's suddenly go read only

I have had this happen the last two days. I am working in an assy file (around 5M) and all of a sudden it is read only. Does anyone know how or why this happens, so I can prevent it in the future? Thank you in advance

oh by the way it is NOT a server issue

not the same issue, when my licence server dropped out for a few seconds..
