Assigning global/local end displacement to a member in SAP2000?

Hi,

I am trying to get axial force on a specific member with known end displacements of a 2D truss. However, although I assigned the displacements to joints, after 'run', I get literally nothing,I mean no forces no displacements at all. Is there anyway to assign kinematic degree of freedoms in SAP2000 ?

Thank you so much.

Hi,

Maybe the structure is statically determined ? it means that an imposed displacement doesn't cause internal forces.

Just a guess based on usual mistakes: Have you defined the proper restraints in the joints?
Imposed displacements only work on restrained degrees of freedom.

Hi,

Yes I also forgot to mention what darkjmf1 said. Imposed displacements only work on restrained degrees of freedom.

Hamamyolu, I was having a similar problem today. Apparently, in SAP, you can only apply forced displacement loads to restrained nodes. I was attempting to apply a displacement to a node at the midpoint of a beam and couldnt figure out what the problem was.
