Assembly weight

Hi All,
In a large assembly I need to apply material to all the parts with steel. Is there a way I can do it quickly. I dont want to open parts individually.

Basically after this material assignment, I want to calculte a rought weight of the assembly.

If all the parts are currently one material of known density, and you know the current mass, then you should be able to calculate the mass for the new material.

I would use vol*density to calculate the weight of a part.

But here I have a sheet metal enclosure with many tubular parts, plastic handles and fastenrs assembled to it.

I dont mind to consider all of these as steel for arriving at an approx calculation of weight.

So, In assly file, I would go to mass properties and collect the total volume and could calculate the weight. But this being an hallow enclousure, it might not be appropriate to calculate the weight this way.

Any other approch?

The volume given in the Mass Properties is for the volume of "solid" material of the components, not their "holding" capacity. i.e. It does not include air space.
