Assembly part becoming transparent.

All right, guys, time for what is probably a very stupid question. I was working on an assembly, when my primary part suddenly became transparent. I've tried changing its color, and checking its setting, but it's staying that way.

Any ideas?

Make sure you are not in Edit Part mode. When you edit a part in assembly, SolidWorks now turns your assembly transparent (other than the part you are editing.) Note that this behavior is controlled by your options settings.

One other possibility, try editing the component properties, select color, then select remove color. The part should revert back to the same colors you see when you edit the part in a separate window.

I agree - they should separate the Edit and Open part menu picks by as far as possible. True, some people do not understand the MAJOR difference, but they are also very easy to select by mistake. BTW: I recommend that you avoid Edit part anyway unless you REALLy need to make an in-context edit.

Agree. If you don't know or understand what In-Context is, then avoid it. It may bite you later, and you will spend hours trying to find out why and how you got bit.

I don't want to edit in context, believe me, but I really don't think I have many options. I have a pump that we're attempting to design custom-fit insulation blankets for. This pump has an unbelievable number of protrusions that have to be accounted for. So far, it seems to be a little easier to design my blankets in assembly mode, since I can actually see the pump as I'm covering it. I can also check for the fit of the coverings.

Maybe this is your problem? In "System Options : Display/Selection", Is the "Assembly Transparency for in Context Edit" mode set to "Force Assembly Transparency"?

Mine is set to Opaque Assembly, which makes the non-edited parts (while in context edit) the color assigned to "Assembly, Non-Edit Parts" in the "System Properties : Color" section, and NOT transparent.

Oh, and in the "Assembly Transparency for in Context Edit" area, you can adjust the transparency slider in the "Force Assembly Transparency" setting.
