Anyone have experience (and success) with repair of segregation in a newly placed asphalt mat, other than to remove and replace?

Give a little more info. Is it causing raveling? Is it causing bleeding (flushing in some areas)? Which end of the gradation spectrum is affected?

Yes, several areas with raveling...and there is traffic on it. The large stone is segregated, and the course is a single 4" lift.

...this is asphalt base (25 mm nominal)

Sounds pretty stinky. Been there, mill and fill with appropriate ACP/add chip seal. Stacking good ACP on questionable ACP is a bad idea.

Addition of 15" CRCP overlay would probably solve the raveling issues.

What does your spec say about the contractor's responsibility for substandard work?

"...students of traffic are beginning to realize the false economy of mechanically controlled traffic, and hand work by trained officers will again prevail." - Wm. Phelps Eno, ca. 1928
