Hi all,
Referring to sketch j in fig UG-34, the calculated flange thickness 't' is shown from the gasket contact face to the back of the cover, however, the thickness of the flange where the bolt holes pass through appears thinner. I have calculated 't' using formula 2 for both operating conditions and gasket seating and have a min result of 1.5in. Does this figure apply to the thinnest part of the flange?
I have a copy of another company's calculation which indicates that 't', where bolts pass through, conforms to the formula on page 35 - when cover plate is grooved for a peripheral gasket.
Bit confused! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
