ASME Section VIII Div 1

Hi Everyone,

As I know current Section VIII-1 code allows pressure vessels be both fired vessels and unfired vessels. Is this was the case from the beginning or previously Section VIII-1 was only for unfired vessels?
I think, letter "U" in nameplate come from first letter of word "Unfired".
I hope we have people old enough to remember history of Section VIII-1.
