ASME Section I Edition 2015, End Note No. 10 is mentioning factor of safety 4 to 5 on tensile strength but from year 1999 and onward FOS is 3.5 on tensile. (FOS had been 4 to from 1914 to 1998) I think Section I has not updated the end note?
Counterpart of End Note 10 in ASME Section VIII-1 is End Note 26 that is updated and there is no mentioning of FOS 4 to 5. Rest all of its wording is exactly the same as that of End Note 10.
