ASME Code Stamp for a vessel question

Does a vessel 6" dia. or larger, filled with granular material, operating at a max pressure of 175psi, need to be ASME Coded?

As an example lets just use the good ole USA

It depends. If you install this vessel at a location in the good ole USA that does not regulate pressure vessels, and you insure your own equipment, no need for a Code stamp.

Well again, I believe it depends what state it's going to. Some states are pressure vessel states and some aren't. If it's going to one that isn't you don't have to have a stamp on it.
However, from a marketing standpoint, it seems that stamping the vessels would be a good idea. That way there's no question about it.

What you describe is within the scope of Section VIII of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel code. Build it per ASME Section VIII, almost all states have pressure vessel laws requiring compliance with Section VIII, as does Canada. Regarding other locations around the world, having it constructed to Section VIII perhaps gets you the best chance of having it accepted by local jurisdicions, although there are plenty of exceptions.
