Dear all experienced bros,

I am new to ASME BPVC section VIII Div 1, and I have to determine the max. number of years this vessel can be operated if fatigue evaluation is not performed based on this code,

A pressure vessel with a shell and 2 hemispherical heads si constructed of SA 516-70 carbon steel(70ksi). Self-reinforced nozzles in vessel are made of SA213-316 stainless steel (75ksi). Vessel is shut down 8 times a year for maintenance. At start-up full pressure of 300psi and full temperature of 450 degree Fahrenheit are reached in 2 hrs. Max. temperature difference between any 2 points during start up is 300 degree Fahrenheit. At shut down, max. temperature difference is 100 degree Fahrenheit.

Could you please guide me through the solution of the above given question ?

Thanks

pathfinderjj, if fatigue is not a consideration then corrosion likley will govern.

Get a copy of API-510 and 'absorb' it. It has everything you need for a simple evaluation of 'Remaining Life' of a vessel. And SnTMan is right, most likely corrosion will be your primary failure mechanism.

thanks SntMan and Duwe6. I will look into the corrosion failure for more details then.
