Looking for some help on a material use issue.

In B31.1 Table 126.1:

A182 is listed as acceptable to use under Forgings
A182 is not listed under fittings

I have a Piping Book that states that A182 is not acceptable for fittings per B31.1

This has confused me a bit.

To me, it appears that A182 Forged Fitting are ok to use per B31.1

Am I correct in this??

(The same situation applies to A105 for Carbon Steel.....book says no good for Fittings...but B31.1. says ok for Forgings)

Thanks,
Mike

MG01,
i think that A182 and A105 are absolutely acceptable, the reason they are not listed as fittings in TABLE 126.1 is only becouse they are already listed ad forgings.
Furthermore in the same table ASME B16.11 is listed and according to ASME b 16.11, A182 is acceptable,
anyway there is another question:
Even if ASME B.31.1 clearly states you can use ASTM materials, as follows:

Materials conforming to ASME SA or SB specifications
may be used interchangeably with material specified
to the listed ASTM A or B specifications of the
same number, except where the requirements of para.
123.2.2 apply.

According to the following paragraph and considering the second part:

123.2.2 Boiler External Piping
(A) Materials for boiler external piping, as defined in
para. 100.1.2(A), shall be specified in accordance with
ASME SA, SB, or SFA specifications. Material produced
under an ASTM specification may be used, provided
that the requirements of the ASTM specification are
identical or more stringent than the ASME specification
for the Grade, Class, or Type produced. The material
manufacturer or component manufacturer shall certify,
with evidence acceptable to the Authorized Inspector,
that the ASME specification requirements have been
met

My advice is to specify SA materials, so in your case even if it is just a formal matter, if you specify SA 182 it will make it easier
