When i add a part file to an assembly, the part does not show up? It is in the menu on the left, but not on the screen?

I tried "show", but nothings there?

Is there any solid geometry to the part? Or it is just construction (surface) geometry?

If it is an imported part with just a "dumb" solid, make sure that the solid is water tight and not just a surface feature. If you right click on it and have the option to "make base feature," then do so to make it a solid. If it is not water tight, it will give you error messages and you'll have to fix those surfaces.

For some pleasure reading, try FAQ731-376

Ok.. it was an imported file. I just realized now, that it is an assembly of parts that make an electric motor, but it is saved as a part file. All the individual parts are pink. and i was able to right click and make base part on one piece which now shows up.

Is there a way to save all the individual parts as pars?

So I think i figured it out now. I imported the an assembly as a part file and i guess none of the "parts" were actually solids.

I reimported the files as an assembly.

I am having trouble again with a similar situation.

How do i know the object is "water tight"

I tried importing the individual step files as Assemblies, but only one part appears, and if two appear, only one has "substance".

Is there any tricks? or easy ways to tell what stp files are assemblies vs part files?

Ok, upon import of the Stp file
my options were.

1st time
-heal and stitch
-simplify geometry
-boolean solids
-group curves in a single part copy
-body check
-make base feature
-create single or multiple bodies based on template file selection.

Second time
I undid
heal and stitch
and added stitch surfaces.

Any ideas?
i still get invalid geometry? I can't even see where or what is wrong?

Hi,

When I have a doubt, I open the stp file in an assembly template because then, if there is only one par file (one entry under the asm in the pathfinder), I can just delete the asm file.

Now, to see what is in your files, you can double-click on them : by editing into it, you will see the surfaces (not solid) AND/OR you can right click on a part and choose show/hide component surfaces.

Making a solid with those surfaces automatically with those surfaces is sometimes possible with the options you are referring to but there is not only one recipe because everyfile is different (I guess checking everything will give you the best chance of creating solids automatically).

Otherwise, you can edit the part, modify/add surfaces and use 'stitch surfaces' to make a solid body with the visible enclosed enveloppe of surfaces.

HTH,

Fred
