Hi there,

1/Could someone tell me what are the units of V, f'c, bw and lw in Table 6-18: modelling parameters and numerical acceptance criteria for nonlinear procedures reinforced concrete shear walls and associated components controlled by flexure.
Sorry for this stupid question, because I am not in US, so I am not familiar with imperial units, and there is an empirical formula in the table, thus the unit must be clear.
2/ Can we get shear thresholds of the RC shear walls that are defined in term of shear strain from ASCE/SEI 41-06?
Thanks

Lisu

Question 1

V = pounds per square inch (psi)
f'c = psi
bw = inches
lw = inches

Question 2
Yes. See Table 6-19

By the way, everything except V is defined in the Symbols Appendix of ASCE 41. If I remember correctly, ASCE 41 uses the same units as ACI 318. I am guessing the definition of V is somewhere in chapter 6 of ASCE 41.

Ron,

Isn't V typically pounds in concrete design. The equation in question in V/[tw lw sqrt(f'c)].

Thanks guys for the quick responses.
Regarding my question 2, I mean that I need to define back-bone envelope (shear stress - shear strain) to input to my Perform 3D model. I am not sure that I can get these shear threshold values from Table 6-19 since it only give the drift values.
Thanks
Lisu

wannabeSE...you're probably right...was working off memory! Will check today if I get a chance.
