ASCE 7-05 Table 12.2-1 Building Height Definition ?? 1

My building is a single-story steel building. I would like to use an intermediate steel moment frame (IMF) system but the ASCE code limits the use of an IMF in Seismic Design Category D to 35 feet max building height.

I am using ASCE 7-05. Can anyone tell me where to find the definition of the Building Height as listed on Table 12.2-1? Footnote c references section 11.2 of the code for the definition but the definition isn't to be found.

I am guessing that it is from the BOTTOM of footing to the TOP of the highest building parapet BUT I need a code reference to the height definition to show the building official.

Chapter 13 defines h as the height "with respect to the base."

Chapter 19 has numerous references to "height above the base."

Chapter 11 refers to height for shearwalls as from the top of the foundation.

Section 11.2 defines "BASE" as "the level at which the horizontal seismic ground motions are considered to be imparted to the structure"

I would suggest that your highest level is the centroid height of your diaphragm at the top - not the parapet.

13.3.1 Definition for h - "average roof height of structure with respect to the base".
The wind provisions have a similar statement although in that case they allow the use of the eave height in lieu of average roof height for buildings with roof slopes under 10 degrees.
