It's my understanding that specifying ASCE 60# rail includes the geometry as well as the material and chemical properties. Is this correct? Should I be including other specifications or additional information with the reference to ASCE 60# rail?
I think the only other information you need to specify is the lengths you want,
and whether you want it pre-punched for J-bolts, and if so,
what size beam or cap channel the J-bolts are to fit over.
I had a query back on ASCE 60# rail that was specified and they wanted to know what the material was. I don't know if you have to spec additional information. First time I've been asked.
Another issue is whether the heads are to be hardened, but that may only be available for heavy rail. Required preparation of the ends should be made clear, as they have to be milled if they are to fit tight in bolted splices.
