I'm using AutoCAD Land development desktop R2. Can anyone tell me what I have to do to calculate the area of a spline? I've never worked with splines before and when I try tools-Inquiry-area, it says the object has no area. Is there a way to convert it to a 2d or 3d polyline or to calculate the area for it as a spline. According to the help it says I should be able to get the area.

AutoCAD will give you an area of a "normal" spline. One thing that may cause it to fail is if not all of the splines control points have the same z value.

Thank You. That makes sense. Is there any way for me to get around that? Maybe changing the Z values just to get the area then not saving the Drawing?

Unless the splines are used for some 3-d reason I don't think it would hurt to change all z's to zero and leave it that way. If you have Express Tools use "flatten" to put all z values to zero, if not you could use the "move to infinity and back" method. Move >>(select objects>>0,0,0>>0,0,1e99; then Move>>previous>>0,0,0>>0,0,-1e99.

Carl
