Hello!

I am simulating a bolted connection in two steps (1.pretensioning of the bolts, 2.traction) and in order to save computation time I would like to use the "small sliding" tracking in the first step (no slip expected) and change for the "finite sliding" in the second step which involves large slip.

There is a way to add and remove contact pairs from one set to another but the problem here is that the same pairs are involved and I have no idea how Abaqus then deals with the two properties sets!

I guess there must be a way to do it since it might also be helpful in lots of problems where the friction coefficient has to change during analysis.

Does any one have experience with this type of thing?

thanks in advance!

wounder if you give the same pair with an extra set of name and use that in the second step. will that work?

Thanks for the tip Yoman228!
I will give it a try and let you know if it worked.
