apply a load as a displacement in an assembly using abaqus

Hello,

In a mirror hingle assembly with contacts, when I apply a load as a ramped displacement at a frame rod location the results(stress patterns and failure prediction) is very different from when I apply a ramped force in the same direction and location. I am using abaqus solver. Is there a difference between applying displacement load or a force load at a particular location in a complex assembly with several contacts defined . Please guide me on this.
