I wonder if you guys can help me out with a magic trick that I've been working on. First, draw a cube with different appearances applied to each face. Any appearance will do. DON'T TELL ME WHAT APPEARANCE YOU CHOOSE! Then pull the part into an assembly. Now do an assembly cut through the cube. I've made all of your appearance disappear! I can't tell you how I do it. It's magic.

Oh, by the way. You will not be able to apply any appearance to the part either. It's particularly annoying if you want to do a section cut through your assembly. PITA #1,432,456,732...

I can tell you why it happens and it is because you are changing the surface ID. Not sure why you can't add appearances again though. Have you tried adding them at the assembly level and not force it back onto the part level through the assembly?

I don't see an issue in 2008 sp5.0 I can add any color that i want to the faces, feature or part after the cut. Sorry I couldn't find an edit button to add to my last post.

On my install of SW09-SP3, the problem only occurs when the Propagate feature to parts option is NOT selected.

... and even then it only affects the assy. The part remains unchanged.
