API 650 weld of Wind Girder to Shell is not addressed.

ASME VII Sec 8 , UG-30 has rules for stiffener to shell as stitch weld with 2" min by 8t on both sides.

For a 3/16" shell, this is almost continuous welding and seems excessive.

Does anyone have a rule of thumb for this weld attachement of wind stiffener to shell???

My interpretation is a continous weld around the entire tank. Sometimes a continous weld isn't needed for strength, but to seal against moisture.

3.1.5.8 part b says that the horizontal weld attaching the WG to the shell shall be a continous weld. Use Section 3.1.3.3 to determine the weld size.

Do as the book says, don't be fooled by your thumb
