In the standard API609 Point Number 8-Marking, 8.1.h describe about name plate marking as API609A E8 for Category A Valves.

API609 = for butterfly valve
B = stands for offset seat design of Butterfly Valve
E8 = STANDS FOR WHAT ? What is its relevance ?

A after the 609 means Category A type valve (Concentric disc type). B after 609 means Category B (offset disc type). E8 means 8th edition of the standard. Valves complying with the 8th revision of this standard are to have this additional marking in addition to the standard marking such as size, pressure rating, materials, etc. Noting the revision or edition of the standard the product complies with is important for the monogram program.
