API mandates PSV for pressure vessel?

Is there an API mandated requirement to have a PSV on all pressure vessels?

We would like to remove PSVs from our smaller air receivers. The only credible relief scenario is a fire case but only if a water heel is in the receiver.

Our air driers are presently and have been, for the last 5 years or longer, quite effective in keeping the compressed air dry. The instrument air compressors and large air receivers all have relief devices that are well maintained. Will these facts eliminate the need for relief devices on the smaller vessels throughout the plant? We will conduct a PHA and MOC/PAC before taking action.

There may be an ASME requirement ... since you say they are pressure vessels. API is American Petroleum Institute -- I'm not sure why you think it would apply to your air receivers.

You really need to talk to an authorized inspector for your jurisdiction as to whether it's acceptable to remove the safety valves, not anonymous individuals on the internet who might well be in an entirely different country.
