Hi,

Hope you guys doing well!

Is drive train strength test is mandatory for API6D certification or valve validation??

Best regards
Tushar

API 6D does not have a type test. However, auditor can ARGUE that you have to validate it through empirical testing.

The fact of the matter is it can be difficult (on larger size) to achieve torque values to break those stem.

i should correct myself. api does not have a mandatory type test. but yes, it's an optional test. again, very difficult to actually achieve on larger valves.

Am curious what type of valve are you trying to do the test on?
When you say API certification I guess you mean the monogram? If so you should overlay API Q-1 on the requirements of API 6D, whereby you must verify and validate the designs - maybe look to API RP 591 for guidance for that whilst not strictly applicable the use of a recommended practice can show the application of an API methodology in satisfying the auditors requirements??
