Dear All,
Attached file shows the axial & side clearance requirements as per api 686 for vertically suspended can pump.
Is this applicable to low temp pumps. What i think the purpose for these clearance is just for the thermal expansion.
Hope to hear your expert advise.

The drawing says typical. One would think that the space is an allowance so that any particular pump will fit in all applications. The diameter of the pump cans also do not have a uniform dimameter along the pump shaft.

Thanks bimr. Have you have the experience that you implemented these clearances on your installation? thanks..

The clearance is for easy installation and removal. Some time the can may not be perfectly straight and so is the lining.

Hi Pumpsonly & bmir,
Based on your comments the purpose of the clearance will be easy installation (removal & installation) and provision for the insulation for low temp pumps. thank you very much....
