Hello All,

Building and API 650 tank for water storing. Is there any requirement for internal pipes to be welded or flanged to the nozzles?

API 650 doesn't appear to have any view on attachment of internal pipes. It probably comes down to how easily you want to be able to replace the internal pipes down the track, if necessary.
Cheers,
John

An internal pipe is provided for draw off sump( refer figure 5.21- API 650) which is shown as welded. An internal pipe can also be considered a shell attachment ( refer 5.8.1.1 - API 650) which are considered welded.

A flanged joint inside a water tank( submerged or not) might corrode and require cutting for removal.

Regards

Vasant

Concur with JohnGP. As for external corrosion, flanges last longer than Sch40 pipe; B7 c/s studs & nuts, not so much. If you go with flanges, might want to use s/s bolting.
