It is mention in API 1104 Cl. 7.7 that when requested by the company, heavy glass deposits shall be removed before weld metal is deposited over them. (I want to know what is the meaning for it)
Glass deposits are a form of light slag or oxidation formed in GMAW welding. Clearly, if an optimum quality weld is to be produced, then impurities should be removed to prevent incorporation.
Those deposits are literally glass. Silicon is added to the filler for deoxidization. When that Si scavenges up oxygen, it forms SiO2 - glass. Typically it is a medium brown in color.
