Anyone running Algor on a laptop

I'm looking to buy Algor and was wondering if anyone runs it on a laptop.

I currently use a laptop and will have to decide whether to upgrade this or buy a workstation specifically for FEA.

Some of the latest generation (top spec)laptops come very close to meeting Algor's recommended spec...but not quite.

Does anyone run medium or large models on a laptop or is it much better to run on a workstatation?

Definitely better to go with the workstation. I have a FlexLM license so that I can borrow the Algor license to a laptop, but running a model of any reasonable size takes entirely too long. To get the laptop up to recommended specs will cost about $3k US. For basically this same price, I purchased a dual processor workstation to do the "real" number crunching and a basic laptop (Dell Latitude) for presentations. Since I can borrow the license to the laptop, I'm able to do the modeling and run small, local models while I'm away from the office.

You need to maximize RAM whichever route you go. Windows XP recognizes 2Gb and there is a way to get it see 3Gb, I think. Windows 64 is supposed to see up to 4Gb, I think. The RAM will be the limiter for a sizeable model (50k+ DOF, non-linear).
