I just upgraded from 2005 SP2.0 to 4.0, and solidworks is okay, but when I replaced the old help files with the new ones, it can't hyperlink to them. None of my browser settings have changed, and I've done the extraction a couple of times. I have a call into tech support, but they aren't always timely in response. This is the first time I've ever had trouble updating the Help files in 8 years!!

Thanks,

John

John,
I do not know if this will fix your problem, but worth a look see. See thread thread559-124500

You maybe doing this already.
I searched for the files that were unzipped from “swHelpEnglish.zip”. They were in “C:\Program Files\SolidWorks”.
I did an unzip and they all went to the right places. Some went to C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\lang\english. I did a yes to replace.
“C:\Program Files\SolidWorks” is a better directory to unzip too.

I got it fixed already, no thanks to tech support but to myself. It's kinda a MS thing. The help file start is a compiled html, and my settings or MS xp pro SP2 didn't recognize the publisher, so as soon as browsed to the actual file in lang\english\sldworks.chm and started that up, it will ask if you want to ask if it's okay to open and you can de-select the ask everytime box, and accept from this publisher. Simple problem, but not always so obvious.

Do you have Windows Hotfix 896358 installed?

If so then you be having a security issue with your help.

1) Go to this location:C:\program Files\Solidworks\Lang\English
2) Find sldworks.chm
3) Double click
4) You should get a security warning
5) Uncheck the option so that you allow the help to work
6) You should be good when you launch the help from SW now.

If the above don't, it's a your discretion on whether or not to uninstall the hotfix, since after all it's a HOTfix for security reasons, that's why MS put it out there. It just so happens to have a conflict with SW SP4.0 help files

That's what I did Scott, but thanks for putting into step by step for others to use.

Also had a problem with 3.1 help files too.

I'm all set though.

I couldn't respond any earlier or I would have posted it right after you asked the question.

Glad to see you got running though!

One problem,

If you don't uninstall the hotfix, you have to activate each compiled help file, and there is quite a few. This going to have to be done after every update!! There's got to be another way, besides uninstalling the update. It seems we just need to get MS to recognize the certificate from Solidworks, mine says "Unknown", so maybe it's something on Solidworks side when they create the files to add their certificate ident?

Later,

John
