I see that ASTM has consolidated 6 structural fastener standards into one called F3125. So now to call out an A325, Type 1 bolt it would technically be, "ASTM F3125, Grade A325, Type 1". Has anyone done this yet? If so, has it caused any confusion? Any push back from bolt vendors or shop folks? Just curious. Our bolt vendor tends to be very unsophisticated, so I'm expecting the first time we order bolts using this spec he's going to say there is no such thing.

The next edition of the AISC specification (2016) will reference F3125 rather than the separate standards. The bolts themselves will basically not change including the A325 head marking, so I would suspect in anywhere other than the direct specification arena everyone will continue to simply call them A325. The one significant technical change will be that the larger diameter A325 bolts will be at the same 120 ksi minimum tensile strength that the smaller bolts were. With the old A325 standard, bolts larger than 1" diameter were only required to be 105 ksi tensile. In reality, the majority of all A325 bolts (including the > 1") have been at 120 ksi for several years which makes it an easy buy-in for the suppliers.
